Seriously what the hell is up with the post? Currently this year three sets of CDs and records haven't shown up, in the previous 5 years only one thing has ever not arrived. I'm getting quite annoyed now. Someone out there - most likely a thieving postman considering the rate - is enjoying my messed up oddities and rarities and I'm not. In theory it can only get worse as well thanks to the Government's stupid idea of closing thousands of branches over the next few years. What kind of value for money is this? We get to save a sh*tty bank that was being too greedy, we get an overpriced sporting event that will no doubt just end up in London being blown to pieces, and yet we lose a valuable service. Great Surely money would be better spent on services that are useful than on one off events that leave a country broke and with disused sporting arenas.
:-s
you know, if you have them sent to you via RM recorded delivery, if they go astray, you can get a maximum of £36 compensation.
If they're worth more, try special delivery, and you'll get more compensation.
Otherwise, you could always try phoning Royal Mail customer support and complaining.
I also, am against the closing of post offices :( Unfortunatly its all because of the competiton, they're taking our business and because of that, we're loosing money = not enough money to keep post offices / keep recruiting staff. In the office i work, when i first joined, they had twice the number of staff on my shift than they do today.
So yea, if you can try get it recorded delivery, at least that way you will be able to get compensation if it doesnt arrive :)
Thing is the most recent CD to go missing wasn't worth that much - around £10 - but was limited to 100 or so copies and all stock has since disappeared, so if it was sent recorded and went missing I'd be just as annoyed. The lot I bought it from has kindly said they'll refund me, but I hate that we're both losing out.
The record to go missing recently was from the States and so I'd hate to imagine how much it would cost to send recorded.
Didn't realise you worked at a post office though, Logz. From all the things I've read in the paper it doesn't sound like the best time for them. I was amazed that the Government kept cutting back the things a post office could deal with - car tax, passports, tv licences (I think) - because those things would probably help keep more afloat. I'm all for fair competition but I'd also like to see useful services, and as much as I hate going to post offices (there's an angry man that owns my local one) they are, or should I say, were extremely effective at what they did.
I understand. Its happened to me before, and it does get very fustrating.
Yea, its not the best time to be working for them! Unfortunatly, the public doesnt realise, its not actually a competiton. The other companies who "deliver" mail actually just pick up the mail, then hand it over to royal mail to sort and deliver, while they get the credit for it. Its quite unfair (which was what part of what the strikes were about).
Sorry about your CD, its not a nice experience :(
Fortunately managed to find another copy (should appear sooner rather than later) but it was just quite frustrating. I just wonder where they disappear to, if they've got an address and a return address on the package I don't see how they can get lost, hopefully they'll be returned if they don't end up on my doormat.
Had heard that was the case with the other companies. Maybe Royal Mail should just charge them more for having to finish off their jobs... I don't think I'd even know where to start trying to get another company to deliver post, so if the post offices go no one will ever get a letter from me.
Also seems a bit of a joke that the people trying to get the post offices closed are trying to make sure their locals stay in business.
