Favorite bands :
Hard to answer this one - I like a variety of genres, just listen to whatever I feel like at the time.
Favorite guitarists :
My main influences are Mark Knopfler and Randy Rhodes.
Although my style isn't really like either of those players I'm more a fan of how they approach songwriting, and how they structure their guitar parts to enhance the song rather than go off on some wanking trip of their own.
Favorite bassists :
I'm a fan of any bassist pretty much.
Favorite books :
I like autobiographies. Scar Tissue - Anthony Keidis and Clapton by Eric Clapton are real standouts.
Favorite tv :
I'm going through an anime stage right now. Love FullMetal Alchemist. Also love Top Gear, South Park, Farscape, Firefly, Deadwood, The Pretender, Medium, Scrubs, Robot Chicken, Futurama, heaps of stuff!
Favorite movies :
Too many to count. Braindead (Dead Alive), Evil Dead 2, Shawshank Redemption, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, James Bond (early ones), Star Wars (Original Trilogy), Indiana Jones (Original Trilogy), Rambo, Arnie Films, soo many more.
I currently moderate the Musicians Talk, Bandleading and Singing forums along with my man Axemanchris.
In real life I'm a barrister and solicitor for a small local firm in Canberra. I specialise in criminal law, and practice almost exclusively in the area. So basically I do similar stuff to the lawyers on TV - go to court and jail, hear heaps of cool stories, examine witnesses in court, make pleas to effect sentences. It's a lot of fun, and a lot of work.
In terms of music stuff, I currently play lead guitar in 4 bands. These range in genre from acoustic covers to hard rock. It takes a lot of time and effort to balance the bands but it pays off in the end with plenty of gigs and fun.
Although the band has since disbanded, and I've played with many other bands since, I think one of the best guitar parts I ever wrote was for a mate's song called "Never Get the Chance". It was given to me as a chord progression and I just wrote a guitar part for it over the top. Nothing else was changed. Here's a vid of us playing it at practice;
