I've been diagnosed with Adult ADD.

So I went to a physician who specializes in this today because I've had awful trouble focusing lately. Whether it is schoolwork, conversations, or even learning songs on the guitar.

I've started on a daily 12 hour medication that I'm going to see how it works for me, and in what dosage, and maybe I'll be supplemented with one of the short term ones for at night when my long term medication drops off.

I never really used to believe in ADD, I always figured you're just not hitting your kids enough or something, like many do. I do still believe it is over-diagnosed, but for some people it really is a problem. Your brain is made of chemicals, and just like an imbalance can cause depression, or a bipolar disorder, it can also cause your brain not to focus on activities and to be sporadic in those it performs.
No, that doesn't mean I'm  stupid: I am a rather bright, knowledgeable, and logical person, I just have trouble focusing to apply myself.

An ADD brain is much less active.
You might think "WTF? I thought these people were meant to be hyperactive and always thinking different random stuff? Why would a more active brain stop you from being hyperactive?"
Well, yes, ADD people can me hyperactive, sporadic, and think a lot, but a less active brain has less control of the body, and therefore it can't control you from doing impulsive actions, so you are still active, but you're sporadic and can't focus on one thing at a time.

Here's a brain-scan to show you; For those of you who are visual people like me.

I'm stuggle to convince my parents that I need this medication; but neither of them believe in medication to fix problems. My Mom says "you can't be on medicine for the rest of your life; it's just not worth it." And "Everyone has times like this." but she doesn't seem to understand that I'm to the point where I have no drive, no ability to work by myself, and without help I'm not going to have a good life.

If you'd like to add a comment or opinion I'd gladly welcome it.

Heh, I am one born with ADHD, and I take medication daily to help keep me from
a. Blowing up at someone throwing a pebble at me
b. Running around <insert place here> with arms flapping around screaming "CHEESE!"
c. Thinking about the hot babe over yonder when I should be thinking about... more important stuff...
d. Not paying attention.
And it works.
So yeah, it sucks do take medicine every single fricken' day, but soon it becomes habit, and you think not of you being attentively challenged but as a normal person. Did I mention it actually helps yet? If not, it does.

(BTW, I'm incredibly bored and am doing anything possible to keep me from going insane today, 4/29, and usually any other day... :D)

Oh man, thanks to this entry I just realized I may also have Adult A......
OOOOHH A COOKIE!

lol no just kidding. But seriously, I am quite lazy and never applied myself at school or some other stuff such as a job. I'm only really interested in music but I never thought about something like this. I won't however go and get this checked out mainly because I'm too lazy and I don't care for any medication.

Good luck guys!

Well I read it and I think that ......
well lets use this tactic:
A. It was informitive with the brain image and comparrison.
B. Medication is horrid. It's a bunch of man made chemicals in a pill.
... And I am being really serious when I ask, "have you tried marijuana?"
Now I don't mean just ocassinally, i mean regular THC intake. It is a much safer thing to get addicted too.

Just so you know, I'm a big fan of drugs of all kinds. I think it's neat that you can take different things and your body reacts in such cool ways to them. (Mainly things like pot, shrooms, and other soft drugs; but I do have a special place in my heart for hydrocodone).
But I think that man made drugs can be great things. Sometimes they may not be accurately used for the problem, but they can be life changing for some people.
